I avoided buying this boot as it is 180.00 dollars....but, I finally gave in because it offers some safety features my other boot did not have. I needed a plateform and this gives me a nice heel, though the sole could use more tread. The shank is well padded around the ankle and up the calf and there is a solid support that comes up around the instep and back towards and around the heel. A metal piece at the back of the heel on the outside and a piece of leather on the inside upper for protection when shifting. The shank is a bit narrow for those like me who have an ample calf....but I did get it on and it is stretching a bit. Plus, I find it very comfortable If you need some lift, this is a good option with very good protection
