| This organization has been created by women, and governed by women. Sisters In Spirit is not a club, but rather an organization with a primary goal of working for the benefit and interests of its membership. Officers at the state level and higher are appointed by the national staff; however, each chapter elects its own officers who, as volunteers, have made a commitment to provide fun and entertainment and carry out the wishes of their local chapter members. Members are their number one priority. Members are encouraged to participate at their own level. Some never miss a ride, while others ride when their schedules permit. Even if a potential member does not yet ride, but enjoys the sport of motorcycling, she is welcomed as a Friends member. Sisters in Spirit follows the Motorcycle Safety Foundation’s safe riding guidelines, with member mentoring and safe-rider training provided for all. During a leisure ride, the group will often spend the day exploring lesser-known roads and areas of the region. There is always a meal stop, offering an opportunity for discussion of sights seen during the ride; it is also a great time to learn more about the other riders. To keep members informed of group and area bike activities, a newsletter, ‘Spirit News” is published and distributed monthly. Besides the fun factor, the Sisters have made a commitment to their communities. Last year, SIS participated in a variety of charity events, including poker runs; toy rides; the adoption of needy families, donating gifts and money for the holiday; riding in large night-time Christmas Parade. SIS is a registered non-profit organization. This exciting organization is growing leaps and bounds with members chapters forming all across the United States and Canada. In two short years we have become an international organization. If all of this sounds like fun to you, help will be provided to start a chapter in your area. New chapters will receive information and training to ensure they are successful. To request more information about joining as a single member or starting a chapter in your area, interested women should contact Linda Blankenship, Director at 918-809-1434 you may request information by emailing sistersinspirit@cox.net. SIS is in the process of getting a RIDER EDUCATION program in place through the "MOTORCYCLE SAFETY FOUNDATION". AS we progress with the program we will let everyone know where they may take the Motorcycle Safety course. |
